Chapter eleven

Burger

Burger and Akari walked out of Mary’s diner; they stopped to ask a few questions of the staff about the Knights. They’d gone to Billy Goat bar earlier. In both places, the Knights had been confirmed to have frequented, but not recently. So, Burger and Akari decided to have lunch since they were hungry. Having hit a dead end, they were about to head home, but before he reached his SUV, he noticed the four bikers standing across the street watching him. Their eyes were full of hate and challenge as they glared. Their cuts matched those of the other Hellraiser Knights. Burger knew they were about forty minutes away from the clubhouse, which meant he didn’t have any backup except Akari.

“Fuck,” Burger growled low. “Someone must have tipped them off.”

“Will they make a move here?” Akari asked. He was already on alert the moment he saw the bikers too.

“They might,” Burger said as he reached behind him, grabbing his gun and pulling it out from his back holster. He slowly approached his truck, watching the bikers the entire time. When he saw them reaching for their guns, he knew it was about to kick off. He hurried and ran back in front of his SUV just as the bikers started firing. Bullets hit and ricocheted off the ground and wall of the diner as he kept low and fired back when he saw openings. Burger was caught on both sides, unable to move right or left. He rolled flat on his stomach and fired his gun, catching one of the bikers in the open. His bullet took out the biker’s leg and he fell to the ground. Burger followed it up with two more shots, each hitting the target in his chest.

He got into a crouch position, keeping his head low, and that was when he caught Akari out of the corner of his eye. He was as slick as a cat, slinking toward the bikers, and Burger noticed he wasn’t wearing his eyeglasses. Akari came up behind two bikers who were so focused on Burger, they had no idea the danger that awaited them. Akari aimed his gun, shooting both bikers in the back of their heads in the span of two seconds. Burger watched in awe at Akari’s speed and agility as he ducked behind a huge tree while bullets flew his way, spraying bark off the tree. Before Burger could take out the remaining Hellraiser Knight, Akari dropped low and fired once, his bullet striking the biker in the chest, making the man stagger. Before the body could fall, Akari fired twice more, again in the chest and once in the head. The final biker fell to the ground and the area was silent. Ten seconds, if that much, and that was how long it took Akari to kill three bikers.

Holy shit, Burger thought as he quickly surveyed the carnage.

Akari came out from behind the tree and jogged over to Burger. Both men nodded as they quickly climbed into the SUV.
